CD-R recording software for Mac OS. Installs the applications in English/German/French/Italian/Spanish/Dutch languages. Unfortunately, installation requires that all "incompatible" drivers are removed. Toast drivers are deemed to be incompatible by the NeroMAX installer.

The download is a smi file, wrapped up with StuffIt 5.5

Compatibility:

The installer is 68k only, so I have to assume that the NeroMAX application is 68k also, as I was not prepared to remove my Toast drivers to do a test install.

Fixes DMGs for Mac OS 9 and DiskCopy 6.4 upwards that have been downloaded from the web. Please note that DiskCopy 6.4+ can mount only a certain limited kind of DMGs.

DMG Mechanic prepares also other disk images for DiskCopy, for instance, ISOs: Often you can mount ISOs downloaded from the web with Toast but not with DiskCopy. Oftentimes you cannot lock them. However, if you run the ISO with DMG Mechanic the ISO image will be mountable with DiskCopy, and you can lock them.

I have also used DMG Mechanic to 'fix' .img files. For some reason that works.

MountImage is an INIT/cdev (Control Panel) which can be used to mount Disk Copy 4.2 image files (400K, 800K & 1.4MB) onto a Macintosh Desktop under System Software 6.

It works under SSW 7.x too, but there is little advantage in using this instead of Disk Copy 6.x under SSW 7.0 and newer Mac OS's, with perhaps one exception, MountImage has no problem mounting 400K MFM Disk Copy 4.2 image files on SSW 7.x systems.

Compatibility:

MountImage may work under earlier Macintosh Systems, I've tested this as working with SSW 6.0.8, SSW 7.1.1 & 7.6.1 so far.

MountImage will only let you mount image files that reside on a local (i.e., non-network) Macintosh disk.

The disk image files will mount as locked, so that the contents are not corrupted.

[Note]: A serious bug was noted by Chad Magendanz (ShrinkWrap author), where MountImage "...can cause data corruption if the original image file is split into more than three fragments when stored on disk. In this case, MountImage can lose track of some data fragments, blindly reading and writing to blocks that may not belong to the image file, which can overwrite and damage other files on your drive. Use of MountImage is highly discouraged, even by Steve."
Chad was writing about MountImage vers. 1.2ß2 (article in full). - If this bug was present in the earlier MountImage vers. 1.1ß3, it is uncertain as vers. 1.1ß3 was supplied on all Apple Dev CD's until 1994 without updating it to 1.2ß2, before the 1st of the new NDIF disk mounters could replace MountImage as a reliable means to mounting Disk Copy 4.2 floppy disk images.

The final freeware version of the Macintosh DVD ripper, MacTheRipper 2.6.6.

MacTheRipper is a DVD ripper (extractor) for Mac OS X. It uses the open- sourced GPL libdvdread and libdvdcss libraries. We also use the ‘tocgen’ program in certain modes, which is a part of the ‘dvdauthor’ project. It is not necessary to install these libraries and executables separately to use MTR. This product is made to backup DVDs you have legally purchased for personal use onto your hard drive.

Adaptec Jam was an AUDIO CD authoring software. Kind of the ancestor of iTunes. You could also obtain audio tracks from existing CD's and merge them on your own playlist before recording it to a CD-R.

CD burning software for PPC Mac OS X 10.2 to 10.4

Compatibility:

Requires Mac OS 10.2 or higher to run.

The Pioneer DVR-A03/103 and DVR-A04/104 (Superdrive) does not seem to be supported by cdrdao (disk-at-once) due to firmware in the drive. The DVR-A05/105 and latter are reported to work fine. However, they may all work with cdrecord (track-at-once).

The built in CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive seems to require device set to DVD-R/RW (IODVDServices), even though it is not a DVD-R drive... then use the generic-mmc driver.

For external firewire or usb dvd-r/rw or cdr/rw drives you may need to select as drive 2.

You will find many function have two methods to choose from. CDRECORD may work where CDRDAO does not, or vice-versa.

An excellent free CD/DVD burning tool for Mac OS X Leopard and newer. It makes perfect .ISO images of Mac software CD's including hybrid HFS/ISO9660 media. It can also create Bin/Cue images of mixed media CD's.

Top DL: LiquidCD version 2.08, final released version for PPC & Intel Mac (Leopard)
2nd DL: LiquidCD version 1.33, final released version for PPC Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

Compatibility:

Version 2.08 is Universal, requiring Mac OS 10.5 and newer, PPC and Intel Mac. Guaranteed working fully in Leopard and Snow Leopard. Untested (by me) in Lion but reportedly unstable on Lion and Mountain Lion.

Version 1.33 is PPC only (untested - will check shortly), for Tiger.

This is the French localized version of Disk Copy 6 (currently v6.3.3). It supports copying, creating, converting, and mounting Disk Copy 4.2 and NDIF disk images, has support for AppleScript, log files, CRC-32 checksums, DiskScripts, and digital signatures. It is very useful program for mounting disk and CD images in classic Mac OS environments. It works with .IMA, .IMG files, and other disk image file formats such as DiskDup+ ".dsk" and supports running under a Mac OS 7.0.1 to Mac OS 9.2.2.

Compatibility:

Requires Mac OS 7.0.1 to 9.2.2, although some features are not available for earlier versions of the Mac OS. For example; creating Self Mounting Images (.smi) requires Disk Copy 6.3 and later & Mac OS 8.1 or later. However ".smi" images created by Disk Copy 6.3x can self-mount on earlier than 8.1 Mac OS systems and without a copy of Disk Copy 6 being installed on that system.

Note: If using Disk Copy 6 on a regular basis we should only be using version 6.3.3. Disk Copy 6.3.3 is recognized as being the most stable and complete feature wise, when used in the classic Mac OS environment.

All versions of the Disk Copy 6 series, up to and including version 6.3.3 are FAT encoded (both 68k & PPC native).
